Black Tie, Black Label White Meritage

It should come as no surprise that I love dressing up. Maybe it is because I loved to play dress up so much as a child. Perhaps it is because I am still holding out hope that I am about to be told I am princess of Genovia and I want to be prepared for all of the formal wear I will need to wear as sovereign. Either way, I love getting all dolled up. So when the Club Sales Director at our winery reached out and told me they would be hosting a black tie party for the release of the new black label white meritage, I couldn’t buy tickets fast enough!

Luckily, or rather, intentionally, I have an unlimited Rent the Runway membership. It is, if you ask me, the best deal on the market right now. For one monthly payment, you have the option to rent as many items as you want, and keep them for as long as you want. You can have four pieces at home at a time, and the second you return one you are able to receive your next piece. There is a Rent the Runway store in Georgetown, which is conveniently on my way home from work, and you can return pieces in store rather than mailing them, which cuts down on the turn around time.

Because of my membership, I was able to rent this gorgeous gown! It felt like a tapestry stolen from the halls of Buckingham Palace rather than simply a dress. It reminded me of the scene in Gone With the Wind where Scarlet makes a new dress out of her mother’s drapes!

The second James and I arrived at the winery, we were warmed by the sight of La Grange in the moonlight. Most often you go to wineries during the day, so seeing it all lit up at the top of the hill with no lights around for miles was quite special. It made me wonder what it must have been like to be a cold and weary traveler 150 years go, stumbling upon this home and knocking on the door, praying for shelter from the night.

After  my brief walk down (someone else’s) memory lane, we walked through the front door and champagne flutes immediately found our hands.

As we left the manor house to walk to the barrel room, we were greeted with my absolute favorite part of the holiday season: twinkly lights! Doesn’t it just make you feel like magic is real?

We munched on cheese and thoughtfully prepared hors d’oeuvres, and the winemaker shared his excitement about the release of this special bottle. His passion for the black label white meritage, as well as his joyful anticipation for upcoming projects made James and I incredibly thankful to have found this winery when we did. It has been wonderful watching it grow, and we can’t wait to see what more this talented winemaker can create!

What really took the night from good to great, though, was meeting some new friends! We were a wee bit uncomfortable at first, walking in to a party where we knew no one but each other. Never one to allow circumstance to stop me from finding a solution, I turned right to the sweet looking woman next to me and said “Hi! I’m Emily!” To my supreme delight, she and her husband were more than happy to chat, and we spent the whole night laughing and talking with our new friends!

Once again my theory was proven: when you look good, you feel good! And when you feel good, there is joy in every event! If you are anywhere near Haymarket, Virginia, I highly recommend stopping by La Grange! Cheers!
