Springtime Gingham

Happy second day of Spring!

I am absolutely thrilled that springtime has officially come, despite what the weather man is currently saying! Perhaps it is my California upbringing, but I am truly not myself when it is dark and cold outside. Bring on the sunshine, I say! And while in the wintertime I am all about the tartan, the second the first day of spring hits I cannot get enough gingham! Truly, there is a section in my closet dedicated to it! The sweet, yet subtle pattern brings back so many lovely childhood memories of sunshine and summertime that I would wear it every day if I could!

I’m Finally Okay with Being a Millenial

Years ago someone coined the phrase “millenial.” Almost immediately, this word was associated with personality traits no one would want to be connected with. Millenials are whiny. They can’t get jobs after college. They all move back home. They don’t understand hard work. They are addicted to their phones. They are so entitled. And on, and on, and on. And, as someone who would be horrified to be described in such a manner, I vehemently opposed being associated with the generation that I may or may not be a part of. Further, when I became a teacher and saw some of the up and comers? Who were also supposedly “millenials?” Oh, you best believe I was going to deny my generational moniker with ever fiber of my being. Some recent events, however, have made me come to a new conclusion: I don’t mind being a millenial. I’d even say I am proud of it. Continue reading “I’m Finally Okay with Being a Millenial”

Just One More Thing – Volume 4

Happy Hump Day! I apologize for my absence the past week or so. My life is going through some massive changes (which I promise to share on here soon!) so I haven’t been able to post. Fear not, I’ll be back with gusto, soon! In the mean time, here are a few things I want to make sure I mention!

Two New Books to Read

I’ve been doing a lot more reading lately. James and I moved to Arlington from Alexandria 2.5 years ago, but I just recently got around to switching my library card. Since the library is back to being a 6 minute walk rather than a 15 minute drive, I have more access to books. I have a terrible habit of not reading anything for two weeks and then devouring a book in 24 hours. There are worse habits, right? Below are two recent reads that, while very different, were both wonderful! Continue reading “Two New Books to Read”

My Favorite Crewneck Sweater

I have this funny little thing I like to do: I tell stories with my clothes. I’m not quite sure when I started doing it, but I have a tendency to name my favorite pieces. There is my “founding fathers” shirt named because of the flouncy sleeves, my “Olivia Pope” blazer, my “sunshine” dress. And now, thanks to The Fifth Label, I have my “1980’s Miracle Sweater.”

Lent – A Season of Joyful Memories

Lent is one of my favorite times of year. Please know, I felt weird typing that. Lent, a time in the Catholic Church designed for self sacrifice and quiet repentance is not technically something to be enjoyed. It begins with literally putting ashes on your forehead, so it isn’t exactly a party. However, growing up in a very Catholic household it strangely, but rapidly, became something I looked forward to.
